Michael Cotton pitched DDN Ltd, a device designed to stop drivers putting the wrong fuel into a vehicle, wanting £250,000 for a quarter of the business, and reached an agreement with Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden.

The company no longer trades.

A Costly Mistake, A Bold Ask

Filling a car with the wrong fuel is an expensive and surprisingly common error, giving Cotton's pitch a clear, numbers-driven case that needed little extra convincing.

Paphitis and Meaden agreed to the £250,000 figure, reportedly among the largest sums the show had committed at that point, but Cotton walked away from the arrangement afterward, citing worries about handing over too much control of the business.

A Hard Business To Scale Alone

Bringing a physical safety product to market at real volume needs manufacturing capacity and distribution relationships that are difficult to build without either serious capital or years of patient bootstrapping.

Without outside backing, the venture carried on for a while but ultimately did not survive. Cotton has since been reported working as a director within an unrelated property development firm.

Where Things Stand

There is nothing left to buy under the DDN name, and the company has been struck off the register.

Misfuelling remains a real, ongoing problem, and other manufacturers have since brought comparable prevention devices to market, proof the underlying idea was sound even though this particular business could not carry it through.

Note: Based on the public record; company situations can change, so treat this as a snapshot.
