Chris Elsworthy pitched Power 8 Workshop, described as a first-of-its-kind cordless workbench system sharing one interchangeable power unit across all its tools, wanting £150,000 in return for a 30 percent stake, and reached an on-air agreement with Duncan Bannatyne and Peter Jones.

The company has since closed, after a genuinely long run.

A Deal Accepted, Then Walked Away From

Bannatyne and Jones matched the £150,000 figure for the stake on the table, exactly what Elsworthy had asked for, a clean result as far as the cameras were concerned.

Off camera, it unravelled. Elsworthy reportedly declined the money after filming, unhappy with how the format had portrayed the business, and turned to the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to raise capital instead.

A Long Run Funded By The Crowd

The company kept building and selling its tool range for roughly fifteen years following the broadcast, well past the typical lifespan of businesses that walk away from studio money.

Raising money from thousands of individual backers gave Elsworthy direct feedback on the product before a single unit shipped, arguably more useful in the early days than oversight from two experienced investors would have been.

Where Things Stand

The company was struck off in 2025, meaning the tool system is no longer available to buy.

Outlasting a large share of businesses that did take studio money suggests turning down this particular deal was far from a bad call.

Note: Based on the public record; company situations can change, so treat this as a snapshot.
