Katy Foxcroft and Gillian Robson wanted to spare people the two-step routine of moisturiser followed by self-tanner, pitching a combined hybrid into series 17, episode 1.

It is still trading, selling entirely through its own storefront rather than a marketplace.

Splitting the investment between two very different Dragons

The founders wanted £75,000 for a quarter of the business, and Touker Suleyman and Sara Davies each took half the stake to fund it jointly, giving the brand a manufacturing and retail specialist alongside someone who had personally scaled a consumer products company from nothing.

Getting sun protection and tanning actives to work stably together in one bottle is a genuinely fiddly formulation problem, and turning up with a working, stable product mattered here as much as the size of the opportunity itself.

Built to survive a brutally seasonal category

Self-tan and sun care sales cluster hard around spring and summer, and plenty of small beauty brands do not manage the cash flow discipline needed to keep the lights on through a quiet winter.

Tancream has kept running year-round regardless, and the founders have since added a lip balm to the lineup, a tanning mitt, and a vanity bag, while moving operations into office space at the business incubator The Catalyst rather than working out of a spare room.

Where it goes from here

There is no Amazon listing. The brand sells direct through its own site, which for a company years past its Den appearance suggests a loyal enough following that it does not need marketplace reach to keep the orders coming.

The founders have also floated ambitions to sell into America and South Africa, two countries where skin cancer rates are a genuine public health concern, which points to a team still planning its next move rather than simply holding what it has.

Note: Based on the public record; company situations can change, so treat this as a snapshot.
