Nick Jenkins: The Moonpig Founder Who Joined the Den

Nick Jenkins spent much of his twenties in Moscow trading commodities before returning to Britain to take an MBA and look for something of his own to build.

In 2000 he founded Moonpig, an online business selling personalised greeting cards, named after a school nickname that became one of the more recognisable brand names in British ecommerce.

Building and selling Moonpig

Moonpig launched into a category that barely existed online and spent years buying recognition, helped by a jingle most of the country could sing back at it.

Jenkins sold the company to the Photobox Group in 2011 in a deal reported at around Β£120 million, and moved into backing early stage businesses as an investor.

Three series in the Den

He joined Dragons' Den in 2015 for its thirteenth series, arriving in the same intake as Touker Suleyman and Sarah Willingham, and left after the fifteenth series in 2017. Those seasons are catalogued on this site.

His ecommerce background made him the panel's natural questioner on customer acquisition cost and repeat purchase, the two numbers that decide whether an online business actually works.
