Look for Perfect Ted on AmazonFull story →Teddie Levenfiche and Marissa Poster brought a matcha-based energy drink into the Den, positioned against the usual sugary caffeine cans, in series 20.
Calling this one a survivor undersells it. The brand has genuinely taken off.
Getting In Before Matcha Was Everywhere
The pair asked for £50,000 for a tenth of the company, pitching at a point when matcha barely registered outside specialist cafes, essentially a bet that British drinkers were about to catch on.
Peter Jones and Steven Bartlett put up the full amount jointly. Between Jones's grocery contacts and Bartlett's flair for building an audience online, the company had exactly what it needed to go from niche to mainstream fast.
A Genuine Category Leader Now
Made Beverages Ltd, the company behind the brand, has built what looks like the best-known matcha energy drink on UK shelves, including a limited-run flavour made with fitness personality Russ Cook.
Holland & Barrett stocks the range nationwide, and the brand's own online shop sells bundles direct, one of which name-checks the Dragons Den episode outright in its marketing.
Catching a Wave Early
Matcha has gone from a specialist wellness ingredient to something you can grab at a supermarket checkout, and this brand got there years before most competitors even noticed the shift.
Backed by two investors and now sitting on shelves at a major health retailer, this looks less like a company that simply outlasted its pitch and more like one that used the pitch as a springboard into a leading position.
