The pitch
What walked into the Den
Nicole Duff of Kamloops brought SlyPod, a motorized cart that hauls heavy loads and climbs stairs, to season 17, episode 7.
Her opening offer was $50,000 for 15 percent, valuing the invention at about $333,000.
After the show
What happened next
She got the investment, though on tougher terms than she pitched. Wes Hall offered the entire $50,000 but for a 49 percent stake, close to half the business, and Nicole Duff accepted. Getting funded meant surrendering far more of the company than the plan called for.
Where the product sits today is less clear. The former web address now routes to a domain-resale listing, which hints at a wind-down, but that is a single thin signal and we found no closure notice to back it up, so we stop short of calling it finished.
Our read
The Hub verdict
Read the equity, not the headline. Nicole Duff asked for $50,000 at 15 percent and got the cash, but Wes Hall's price was 49 percent, so she handed over nearly half the company to close a fairly small raise. That is a founder-unfriendly split by any reading, and it is the whole story of this deal.
The current status is where we have to be honest about uncertainty: the former domain now lands on a resale page, a hint of a wind-down but only one weak signal, with no closure notice behind it, so we stop short of declaring it finished.
A tiny raise bought at nearly half the company, and a present status we genuinely cannot confirm.
Worth knowing: The deal figures are reported from the episode; the current status is genuinely uncertain, which is why we flag it rather than pretend otherwise.
