The pitch
What walked into the Den
Carmelo Marsala founded Spray-Net, an exterior painting and refinishing franchise, and pitched it in season 10, episode 14.
He asked for $175,000 while parting with only 5 percent, a valuation of $3.5 million for the service business.

What happened next
An offer did come, but Marsala walked. Per a university alumni profile, he chose not to take the Dragon's deal, deciding the appearance itself was worth more to the business than the money on the table. So this one goes in the no-deal column by the founder's own choice.
The franchise has grown regardless. In July 2026 the site was running a free-quote flow, recruiting franchisees, and claiming a presence across the US and Canada in both English and French.

The Hub verdict
Here the founder walked, and that is the whole point. Carmelo Marsala put just 5 percent on offer for $175,000, a $3.5 million ask, drew a bid from a Dragon, and said no, deciding the exposure was worth more than the deal. Passing on an offer still counts as leaving without one, so this is a no-deal by choice.
The franchise grew regardless, running a quote flow and recruiting franchisees across the US and Canada when we looked, which suggests the exposure bet paid off in its own way.
An offer refused on purpose: a reminder that no-deal is sometimes the founder's call.
Worth knowing: Turning down an offer still counts as leaving without a deal; the ask math is public record, the decision to pass is the founder's own.
