Our read

The Hub verdict

A million-pound valuation is a bold place to start, and Just Lend planted its flag there: Craig Smith asked for 100,000 pounds in return for just 10% of his loans-between-friends app. Give away a tenth for six figures and the implied price tag on the whole business is 1,000,000 pounds. Steven Bartlett backed it on the terms as pitched, money and equity unchanged from the opening ask, which tells you the valuation survived the room rather than getting talked down. Fintech ideas live or die on whether people actually adopt them, so the number that matters after air is user traction, not the handshake. We flag that as the thing to verify rather than something the episode could ever prove.

A ten-percent deal that held a seven-figure valuation intact.

Worth knowing: The deal above is public record from the episode. We never treat an on-air handshake as proof a product is still for sale today.
